Arthur's Seat - Holyrood Park, Edinburgh

Copyright Dave Henniker

Arthur's Seat is one of the seven hills and one of four hill forts and is located in Holyrood park to the East of the Royal Mile. Dating from around 2,000 years ago. As well as it's rich cultural heritage, the park offers many different walks for everyone, solace, wildlife, fabulous views of the city from its many vantage points. The park has several Site of Special Scientific Interest  designations due to its exceptional range of grassland habitats and its internationally important volcanic geology, fortunately for us this volcano which forms Arthur's Seat has been extinct for many years.

Experience a proper hill walk in the heart of the city. Arthur's Seat's rocky summit towers over Edinburgh, with fabulous views in all directions, and the extensive parkland surrounding it is an oasis of calm as a retreat from the busy city.  Best of all, it's FREE.
